The Oldest Stringed Instrument in the World
The Tanbur Society is dedicated to the preservation and propagation of the tanbur, which is the oldest stringed instrument in the world. The tanbur dates back to the Mesopotamian era and has survived many thousands of years.
Unfortunately, in the present day very few people know about or are able to play this beautiful and majestic instrument. In fact, less than half a dozen individuals in the United States are capable of playing the tanbur.
Our mission is to assure that this exotic instrument and its incredible history do not vanish in time; as already happened with the Greek Pandora and other ancient instruments. Please help us to preserve the history and legacy of this magical instrument, and feel free to link to this site and share it with others. |
